Back in 1995, something magical happened: my first fictional character, Liesbeth, began to write through me. Or perhaps I should say, Tulanda, as she is known in her parallel reality. She arrived in my life like a whisper from the universe, inspired by Carl van Vlierden’s book, The Twelve Planets Speak. Funny enough, it was only six years later that I heard the full story from Robin, who would become not just my publisher, but my soulmate.
The books I owned were almost like twins, echoing each other’s stories across the shelves.
When I joined Robin in 2001, we discovered our bookshelves were filled with double copies of the stories we both cherished. It was as if the universe had been preparing us for each other, one book at a time.
Robin, my partner, once met Carl in his healing practice in Pinetown, near Durban, before Carl set off for Canada. Life has a way of weaving people together in the most unexpected places.
Robin, ever the passionate publisher, wanted to share Carl’s book with the world. But Carl hoped to sell the entire print run in one go, and at that moment, Robin simply couldn’t make it happen. Sometimes, the timing just isn’t right, no matter how much our hearts wish it so.
I had already found my own copy of that very book in the early nineties, though to this day, I can’t quite remember how it came into my hands. It’s as if it found me, rather than the other way around. The story resonated so deeply with my soul that it became the seed for my own novels.
To this day, I still have two original copies of The Twelve Planets Speak. Their presence on my shelf feels like a gentle reminder that our stories are always unfolding.
I am always on the lookout for those magical synchronicities that seem to dance through my life, nudging me along my path.
Before I met Robin in 2001, I also owned a copy of Elizabeth Klarer’s autobiographical story, Beyond the Light Barrier. (A South African woman who, starting in 1956, publicly claimed to have been contacted by aliens multiple times between 1954 and 1963.)
A few years after joining Robin in his publishing adventure, around 2004, a book owner from Cape Town reached out to us. He asked if we could breathe new life into his book by re-typesetting the content and giving the cover a fresh look. I happily took on both tasks, feeling the creative spark ignite within me.
On one of our journeys to the Frankfurt Book Fair, we were approached by Marshall Summers’s wife, who wondered if we might bring his books, The Allies of Humanity and others, to readers in South Africa. It’s amazing how the theme of visitations from beyond our world has woven itself into our lives in so many unexpected ways.
Robin left this world in 2023, and my heart broke open. He truly was my soulmate. Even in my grief, I am deeply grateful that Spirit brought us together through my very first novel. I have since republished my books under what was once Kima Global, now called The Power of Words. As I begin revisiting and editing my old WordPress blog articles—many of which are still waiting patiently as drafts—I realise I have a new adventure ahead: learning WordPress all over again.
Thanks for reading my latest post.
